Abstract
Through Stawisha Program, Dignitas offers training and coaching to empower schools and educators (School Leaders & Emerging Teacher Leaders) in marginalized communities to transform students' opportunities with a focus on three levers of transformation; instructional leadership, classroom culture and learner engagement. The Program is designed to transform School Leaders' and Teacher Leaders' mindsets, tools and practices. School Leaders and Teacher Leaders teachers go through termly Leadership Academies, monthly Professional Development Workshops, Coaching, and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for a period of one year. Leadership Academies are intensive classroom-based training summits that introduce ideas and concepts that empower educators to be inspiring leaders and excellent teachers. The aim is to shift beliefs, attitudes and values so that educators see the potential in their schools and students. The Academies lay the foundation for educators to take charge of improving their schools and catalyzes school improvement efforts. Professional Development Workshops provide targeted development opportunities for both school leaders and teachers that build on the foundation created in the Academies with intense modelling and practice. Coaching provides personalized, in-class mentoring to the educators. It focuses on practical application of skills and concepts learned in training to ensure they are implemented in the classroom. Individualized coaching also ensures that each teacher receives support specific to his or her needs and abilities. Professional Learning Communities help educators to routinize sustainable reflective practice towards whole school improvement. Stawisha is currently being implemented in two locations; Dandora and Homabay. There are two cohorts learning concurrently in each location; the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 Cohorts. This is because Stawisha Program delivery was affected by schools' closures in 2020 as a result of Covid-19 pandemic. However, the Dandora and Homabay 2020-2021 Cohorts went through a covid-related initiative; Leaders of Learning, to promote wellbeing and learning during the pandemic. Same year (2020), the 2020-2021 Cohorts went through School Reopening & Recovery trainings to ensure schools were well prepared for reopening and learning recovery. In Dandora, there are 20 APBET schools and 98 School Leaders in the 2020-2021 Cohort and 21 APBET schools and 84 School Leaders in the 2021-2022 Cohort. In Homabay, there are 20 public schools and 80 Schools Leaders in the 2020-2021 Cohort and 22 public schools and 88 School Leaders in the 2021-2022 Cohort. Note: The data provided in this template is only for Dandora Cohort.
